Read again

Dear Community

Would you be interrested if by January 2008 we would start to read theOutlander books together again?

If so, would a chapter a week be fine with you?
At the end of the week there would be a discussion post in the community talk with the others about the weekly part of the story

Opinions? Questions?

Yes! I would be totally interested, since about a chapter a week is likely all I could manage between school and the bratling. :)

I can't promise to keep up, but I like the idea and would love to participate/read the discussions :)

I would love that, especially considering I was just thinking about rereading the books. A chapter a week definitely sounds manageable since my one concern with getting involved in something like this is juggling work and school. A chapter/week definitely sounds good though.

I'd love to! A chapter a week sounds lovely, and in the summer/school breaks we could increase it perhaps?

Since I just started reading the series, and I'm just a quarter of the way through Voyager, it would be fun to start again and be able to participate in some discussion. :D

I would love that. I could just about manage a chapter a week. I just finished re-reading the whole Harry Potter series, starting in late exhausted. It took just three months, but Diana's prose is denser and more sophisticated than Rowling's, so I expect it to take a few months longer.

Sounds like fun. I could probably join in without my book handy, I've read it so many times. We did something like this with the Harry Potter books before the release of the 7th one. A chapter a day with intense discussion was pretty grueling. It ate my life from February until September.

For Consideration

I'd love to do a re-read. The only concern I have about the "chapter a week" idea is that if we only read a chapter a week it's going to take YEARS to finish the books.

Outlander - 41 chapters
Dragonfly in Amber - 49 chapters
Voyager - 63 chapters
Drums of Autumn - 71 chapters
The Fiery Cross - 111 chapters
A Breath of Snow and Ashes - 125 "chapters" (124 plus epilogues)

Which sums up to a total of 460 chapters and just shy of 9 years of reading. Even if you leave the initial book chapter sections alone but double up the last two books (she does have a tendency to make 1 or 2 page chapters in the later books) (41+49+63+71+55+63) you still end up with 342 chapters or about 6 1/2 years of reading. I don't know that I have 9 years worth of commitment in me.

Perhaps we should consider a number of pages per week or per every two weeks? Rounding up or down as necessary to get to the end of a chapter? I realize this can be problematic since not everyone has the same editions of the book but I'd suggest only splitting it this way but noting the chapters to be read during that time. I have the big paperbacks, here's my page counts.

Outlander - 627 pages
Dragonfly in Amber - 743 pages
Voyager - 870 pages
Drums of Autumn - 880 pages
The Fiery Cross - 979 pages
A Breath of Snow & Ashes - 980 pages
Total pages: 5089

Say we want to read through the entire series in a year, that's about 100 pages a week in my editions(97.8653 pages a week to be exact). Since I tend to read each book in one go over a long weekend I couldn't really say how fast I can read, but 100 pages in a week doesn't seem that bad.

Just a thought...

Re: For Consideration

Uh... thanks for pointing that out

As you may have already seen, there are a lot of people who don't think they can get more in, in a week
I guess we will have to start that way, and then see if it would be possible to make it more, because people see that they can do more

I've just recently restarted myself and I'm half way through Dragonfly In Amber .. reading only a chapter a week would be hard, I am trying to pace with just a few a night .. but I'd love to get into what others are thinking and pick up things that you miss as you go through each and every time, that's what I love about these novels, the amount of detail is massive, you never truely take it all in with the first, second or even third reading, there's something extra each time ...
As for Annabella's sums in the time it takes .. woah! I'd never have thought of that ... I would agree to at least a few chapters a week is easy ... once you read a chapter, the books are so more'ish, even when you know what's coming because you've read it before, they make me struggle with insomnia, if I can ply it out of my hand and turn off the light, I lay there for awhile thinking on all I've just read .. I'd say we could do more, but I'm happy to go with the flow.

Hey all! I have not posted here before but I've enjoyed reading the posts. I recently re-read Outlander for the 4th time, on an impulse. I had picked up the book, just intending to reread a few favorite passages. lol So that jumpstarted me back into listening to the books on audio, which I highly recommend. I had already listened to the first 3 on audio, so I am listening to Drums of Autumn now. It's heavenly.

Anyway, I'd be very interested in a book discussion! I can't promise to keep up with all the reading, but having read Outlander a few times already, it would be no problem to jump into a discussion.

Jeez... I've never thought about how many pages are in her books, but it seems like with each book she gets more and more winded about them... and I'd definitely be in on reading them again and joining in on the discussions. If we set it at a certain pace at first and see how it goes from there and adjust it as needed, but it's up to whoever to decide. Kudos to you for suggesting it, I've always wanted to participate in a group discussion OUTSIDE of school, something I don't have to read, it's just for fun... this'll be great though!

Oh yes! I'd definitely be interested...and a chapter a week sounds marvelous since I'd probably not have much more time between work and school.

I'd be interested! BUt I dont want it to take 9 years lol.

Maybe we can go by big events in the story, like claire frist meeting jamie, the friswt trip through the stones, the castle leoch and stuff like that
